Power of Your Partner

I will never forget that day when my partner told me she was pregnant. That she was carrying my first child. I was elated, told everyone I knew and everyone I didn't know. It was wonderful news I had to tell everyone. It was interesting the response I got from strangers and casual acquaintances at work. They were not as enthused as I was. Some were less than supportive. Months later I mentioned to female coworkers the level of respect I had for women and their ability to give birth. This incited a vomit of words accusing me of being like "every man" out there as a co-worker jumped on her antimale soapbox, after which I calmly left. She had somehow mistaken my conversation regarding the abilities of the female gender as offensive.

Her offense coupled with past conversations with other men about seeking balance between Love and Dominance led me to this writing. Submission is not an easy task and all of us do it every day on some level, even the most "Alpha" of men. I may be the Authority figure in my relationship but I exchange the power with my partner. She is capable of handling certain things better than I can. Our skills complement each other, as they should. Power exchange is the fabric of a healthy society. I could talk about that for hours so let's get back on topic. The coworker's offense, the men who seek to balance things that are already intertwined with each other made me realize that one of many disconnects we have in our society is Respect.

I have great respect for my partner because she has the ability to bear children and what she will go through to give me such a wonderful gift of life like she is. However, just because I believe in Power Exchange, M/s relationships, Head of Household dynamics, any other label you have, or the exchanging of power in your relationship, it does not diminish the power of a woman. Men and women each have their own strengths and skills designed to complement each other, not take away from each other. For the first time, ironically after having the conversation with a coworker I heard The HU - Song of Women feat. Lzzy Hale It is such an amazing song about the power of our partners. You can be the one in the position of Authority, the Dominant, and still show love and respect (as you should) for your partner.
