The Meaning of Worth

There is a battle for power continually waging between the sexes in our society. It started ages ago and continues even today. It has given rise to movements such as Feminism, and words like misogyny and misandry. Our culture, however, believes in the sharing of power between the sexes. We believe in respecting and honoring your partner…but in every culture in society, you will find extremists. While they represent only a small portion of the culture, they tend to take the limelight and taint society’s opinion of the lifestyle they lead.

In our culture, the extremist view is that women are worthless, or that their only value is to use their bodies to serve men. They believe in order to control and own a woman they need to break her down and make her feel useless. This is not power exchange…it’s abuse, but let’s talk about why.

When one party holds all the power and the other is worthless, there is no exchange. In a true power exchange, each person gives of themselves. Any healthy relationship will strengthen both partners, making them better than when they were alone. In a power exchange relationship, each person brings their own strengths to the table. Maybe the man works, and the woman takes care of the kids. Maybe the wife manages the finances and the husband takes care of the yard work. Everyone has their own strengthens and they work together to keep things running smoothly. No one is ever worthless.

Who would want to invest time and effort into something that is worthless? The answer is no one. Power exchange relationships take work and commitment and it takes a strong person to submit to any authority, even a loving one, without loosing themselves. When both parties are truly open and honest about what they want and need it’s a beautiful thing, but learning to please and serve your partner on a deeper level isn’t something that happens overnight and strong bonds develop. Partners who submit to a loving authority are cherished, desired, loved, and cared for…but they are never worthless.
