Your time you are given; Your choice

Time is an interesting concept. We use it to mark the passing of hours and minutes. We use hours and minutes to record the events of our lives, or more appropriately to schedule our future. Sometimes we get so lost in scheduling our future, we forget to stop and be ourselves. We get too wrapped up in the drama of friends to just enjoy the breath we have. We spend so much time fighting over the politics of the world around us that before we know it our children are grown and living their own lives and our parents are walking their final steps.
I have spent too much time fighting my past, fighting perceptions, years went by and I had awoken one morning to a world quite different. That little girl and boy who were the closest thing to children I had were now venturing into the world on two completely opposite paths. My father was beginning to slow down as old age finally caught up to him. What do I have to show for the time that I spent fighting the past?
Yes, goals were accomplished, and I am in a good spot in my life. Have I made any impact on those around me? Have my values and principles shown through how I live my life?
I can say yes to both of those questions. Can you? Does your life broadcast the example of the change you want to see in the world?
I once heard the saying, "If you don't stand for something you will fall for everything". How very true these words are. I see relationships on the brink of divorce, men who spend every night trying to drink their failures away, and women who are medicating just to tolerate their lives. Where is the value in a life like that? Is that the best way to use your time on this earth?
